Mid-Atlantic Regional Retreat 2024

Retreat Theme : Be Always Happy
You must establish peace in your heart. You must always be happy and blissful. Sweet smile should dance on your lips. You should not put up a castor oil face under any circumstances. You must always be smiling. When others see you, they should also feel happy. You should be happy and at the same time make others happy. When you develop broad-mindedness, you can achieve any great task. You must experience bliss at the individual level and in the family and then share it with the society. Then all people will be happy. Happiness is union with God.
-Sri Sathya Sai Baba, September 5, 2006, Prasanthi Nilayam

Guest Speakers

In Person
Mrs. Seema M. Dewan has been under Swami’s Divine fold since age eight, having come from a family that followed Shirdi Sai Baba and Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba as their God and Guru. It was the devotion of her mother that took her to the doorstep of Bhagwan. She is an environmentalist by education and training. Bhagwan gave her direct guidance of how to play a role of a mother in dedicating her life to teaching the children the power of following truth under all circumstances.
Bhagwan commanded her to leave her career and dedicate her life only to the upbringing of the children. He said to her, “Instead of sending them to Harvard, take them heartward.”
Just after delivering her twin boys, Bhagwan gifted her with a pen to write several books. Her first publication was Sai Darshan, which was signed and blessed by Bhagwan and translated into several languages. She is also the author of other books carried by the Sri Sathya Sai Books and Publications Trust in Puttaparthi and signed and blessed by Swami, including Sathya Sai Chalisa, Sathya Sai Ashirvadam, Living in the Presence of God Volumes 1, 2, and 3, The First and Last Awakening Volumes 1, 2 and 3, Heart to Heart, and Faithful to the Soul Volumes 1 and 2.
She engages herself in penning inspirational writings when she in communion with God within herself, and shares them frequently on her webpage (theblessedlordspeaks.com) and Facebook page (www.facebook.com/SeemaMDewan). She hosted the Sathya Sai Center of Greater Canton, Ohio at her home for many years, during which time she gave numerous talks about her experiences with Bhagawan and His teachings. She was a Bal Vikas guru for that time, and her continued passion is teaching children the importance of values and the joy of living a life dedicated to Swami.
Bhagwan has blessed her with many close physical encounters over the years. She feels humbled and wishes to share the love, guidance and grace she has received from Her Guru and God, Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.

The retreat is made possible by the efforts of many dedicated volunteers. Devotees are encouraged to volunteer for any seva opportunity that appeals to them. To practice Unity in Thought, Word and Deed, all volunteers are requested to follow-up on their commitments. This is your commitment to Swami.
Please review carefully the service opportunities that are briefly outlined including the timings. Note as you volunteer, you might have to miss some of the programs as the timings of some service opportunities might conflict with the main program. Most activities (except SSE Teachers) require 2 to 3 hours of commitment.
List of Service Opportunities
Audio System Support
This group takes care of the Audio system requirements during the retreat. They help transport, setup and monitor sound systems in Devotion Hall, SSE programs, Young Adults meeting room and workshop venues.
Site Setup
Committed volunteers are needed to transform the campsite into an atmosphere where all can enjoy an uplifting, spiritual experience. This is done on Friday. Setup needs to be completed prior to our first bhajan session on Friday evening. A large number of volunteers are needed in the devotion hall to help with setting up of the altar, decorations and seating arrangements. Volunteers are also needed to help place signs and banners throughout the campsite for easy navigation. Assistance is needed in transferring groceries / supplies to the kitchen area and in setting up the dining hall.
Site Cleanup
We all want to leave the camp and head home as soon as possible but our goal is to leave the site in a better condition than when we arrived. If you can stay back and help with the camp cleanup, it would be greatly appreciated. Please note that this is a much needed service. We are very grateful to those who assist in our retreat’s closing activities.
Devotion Hall Maintenance
Maintenance of the devotion hall, including ushering of devotees, preparing for programs/workshops, etc.

Videography
This is an aspect where memories created are kept for a many years after the event. This will be a major service to all the devotees who are unable to attend the retreat or who were providing valuable seva in the areas identified in this section. Retreat videos are posted on the regional website. If you have camcorders/video equipment and are good at using them, then please consider signing up for this seva.
God will not ask you, when and where you rendered service? He will ask with what motive you did it. You may boast about the quantity, but God seeks quality, the quality of the heart, the purity of the mind, the nobility of the motive. The Lord is pleased only when you do the things He desires. How else can you win His grace, but by nursing and nourishing His children.
— March 19, 2008 Thought for the Day
Smaller and interactive study circle style workshops are planned based on the retreat theme and covering areas of devotion, education and service.
Please click “WORKSHOP SCHEDULE” button above for the details.

Retreat Rules
The restrictions, rules and self-control are the royal roads leading to that goal of self- realization. They are not just to bind you, to limit or control you – Sathya Sai Baba.
This is a spiritual retreat. To ensure that all attendees can spiritually benefit from the Retreat, we require that everyone observe the following basic rules:
Safety Rules
Swimming pools and the lake are off limits to all retreat attendees because of safety, insurance and liability reasons. Please observe designated lights out time at night.
General Rules

Camps have underground pipes and tanks that are easily crushed as well as hilly and wet areas where cars/vans are not allowed. Please respect the campsite rules and property. Do not tamper with cabin fixtures. Stay in your assigned cabins. Do not leave children and valuables unattended. Men and women will be seated separately for all activities. Do not undertake any independent workshops or group activity. Engaging in any commercial transaction is prohibited. Please note that pets are not allowed on the camp site
Dress Code Rules
Modest clothing, suitable for an Ashram, is required at all times. No shorts, miniskirts, or tight fitting clothes are allowed. Early morning and evenings can be cold so please come prepared with sweaters and shawls.
